What is included in my walk package?
The tour package will include all accommodation and meals while on the walk, ferry transfers from Picton to Ship Cove and on the final day, from Anakiwa back to Picton. You don't have to worry about anything except enjoying your Queen Charlotte experience.
What do I need to bring with me?
- Hiking boots (strongly recommended) or off-road shoes
- Woollen socks for three days walking
- Shorts or longs – quick drying
- Thermal long johns and top
- Waterproof jacket with hood
- Polar fleece or woolen jumper
- Warm hat and gloves
- Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
- Medium size daypack
- Drink bottle – at least one litre capacity
- Swimwear
- Camera
- Small personal first aid kit
- Casual attire for the evenings
- Any other personal items

What sort of accommodation and food can I expect?
The three nights of high quality twin share accommodation. Each room has its own private ensuite bathroom. Each day you will arrive after an exhilarating day’s trekking to enjoy restaurant dining, hot showers and a comfortable bed.

What do I carry while walking and what happens with the rest of my luggage?
Your luggage will be transported for you each day via ferry to your accommodation that night. All you need to carry while walking is your daypack with your lunch, clothing requirements for the day, camera and any incidentals
Do I really need thermals and a fleece, even in summer?
As some of the track is in open country and can be exposed, we recommend that you be prepared for all weather conditions.
What if I don’t feel like walking one of the days?
No problem, we can arrange a boat (at your own cost) to transport you to your next night’s accommodation.
How many people are in each group?
Tuatara Tours take a maximum of twelve people on each walking tour. We feel this gives you the best opportunity to gain as much as possible from your Akaroa Walk experience. We are happy to discuss options for groups of more than twelve with you.
I would like to come on my own, is this okay?
Yes you certainly can. Please note that there is a single supplement fee if you would like single room accommodation.
Do you have a risk management plan?
All our guides have first aid qualifications and the company has a Safety Management Plan which has been checked and approved by a qualified and independent auditor.
What time does the tour finish?
After your final day’s walk concludes at Anakiwa, you will then be transported back to Picton arriving approximately at 5pm.
