What level of fitness is required to do the walk?
The walk requires a moderate level of fitness in order to gain maximum enjoyment. We recommend that you do plenty of hill walks prior to coming on the walk.

Where does the walk commence from?
The walk departs from our central Christchurch office at 24 New Regent Street. This is a short twenty minute drive from Christchurch's International Airport and within easy walking distance from most of Christchurch's main hotels.

What sort of accommodation and food can I expect?
The accommodation is of good quality on a double or twin share basis. You will enjoy restaurant quality meals on two nights, as well as a classic New Zealand barbecue.

What are the guides like?
Our guides are experienced friendly trampers who love to share their knowledge of the Banks Peninsula history, flora and fauna. They all hold current first aid certificates and are the very best people to ensure your experience on The Akaroa Walk will be one to remember.

What do I carry while walking and what happens with the rest of my luggage?
Your luggage will be transported for you each day to your accommodation that night. All you need to carry while walking is your daypack with your lunch, clothing requirements for the day, camera and any incidentals.

Do I really need thermals and a fleece, even in summer?
As some of the track is in open country and can be exposed, we recommend that you be prepared for all weather conditions.

What if I don't feel like walking one of the days?

No problem, we can arrange alternative transportation for you to your next night's accommodation.

How many people are in each group?

Tuatara Tours take a maximum of twelve people on each walking tour. We feel this gives you the best opportunity to gain as much as possible from your Akaroa Walk experience. We are happy to discuss options for groups of more than twelve with you.

I would like to come on my own, is this okay?
Yes you certainly can. Please note that there is a single supplement fee if you would like single room accommodation.

Do you have a risk management plan?
All our guides have first aid qualifications and the company has a Safety Management Plan which has been checked and approved by a qualified and independent auditor.

When and where does the tour finish?
Your walk concludes in Akaroa, and we then provide your transport back to Christchurch on the following day at 10.15am. If you wish to stay on longer in Akaroa, we can transfer your transport back to Christchurch, to a later date.

How can I book?
Tuatara Tours can book you on The Akaroa Walk. Bookings are essential and are easy to make either online via our secure website, or by contacting us during normal business hours.
